DNS

The domain name system: the service that turns names into addresses. When it fails, everything that depends on names looks broken at once.

In REAP

A DNS failure is a classic “everything is down” symptom whose cause lies elsewhere; REAP’s evidence separates the name-resolution failure from the path.
