Active/standby (high availability pair)

Two devices arranged so one carries the service and the other takes over on failure: firewalls, VPN gateways, load balancers, core routers. “HA” for short.

In REAP

Standby sync, configuration drift between the pair and whether a failover has ever been exercised are the resilience checks REAP runs; an out-of-sync standby protects nothing.
